Recipe for Inspiration (Repost)

I think this is a very inspirational story. I hope you enjoy it as well. May God bless you in this new year: (reposted from: http://www.rdasia.com/recipe-for-inspiration)

Maricel Apatan, 22, stands in the kitchen of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Manila, preparing to decorate a cheesecake. It would seem to be a routine task for a pastry chef, but Maricel is no ordinary chef – she has no hands.
Her disability, however, barely slows her down. Using her wrists, Maricel coats the sides of the cake with crushed nuts. Next, she grips a chef’s knife tightly between her hip and left inner elbow and uses her left wrist to delicately slice grapes, kiwi and strawberries in half. In short order, she arranges the fruit on the cake, adds blueberry filling, and sets an elegant chocolate curl on top.
“When I first saw Maricel, I was worried she might hurt herself when using a chef’s knife but that has never been a problem,” says Sous Chef Ariel Reyes, Maricel’s manager. “She does not get special treatment and works just as hard as the rest of the chefs.”
Maricel has come a long way since the day in September 2000 when she and her uncle were attacked near their farm in a remote area of Zamboanga City, Mindanao. Five machete-wielding men, who were trying to force Maricel’s family off their land, brutally hacked into her uncle, then turned on 11-year-old Maricel. She passed out as she tried to protect herself from the savage blows.
After she came to, Maricel pretended to be dead until she was sure the attackers were gone. As she staggered home, she looked down to see her hands dangling loosely on threads of bloodied flesh. Miraculously, she survived a long, arduous trip to the hospital, but doctors could not save her hands. Her uncle also survived the attack and eventually they testified against two of their attackers, who are serving life sentences.
Despite financial help from Catholic Archbishop Antonio Ledesma, a distant relative, Maricel struggled to cope with her disability. “I was totally dependent on my mother,” she recalls. She returned to school, but teasing by classmates often left her in tears.
In 2004, Archbishop Ledesma arranged for Maricel to live in the House with No Steps, a Manila rehabilitation and training centre for people with disabilities. She learned how to write and do chores and, more importantly, came to terms with her disability. “Trusting in God, I became more determined to strive to have a normal life. I believed I had an important mission in life because I survived the attack.”
Maricel eventually graduated from high school and enrolled in a two-year Hotel and Restaurant Management course in Cagayan de Oro City. “I have really enjoyed cooking since I was seven years old.”
Thanks in large part to her parents’ unwavering support, Maricel flourished even though she was the only disabled student in the course. “I wasn’t shy or intimidated to sign up for class competitions like cake decorating.”
After Maricel moved back to Manila to continue her studies, the media started reporting on this indomitable young woman. She didn’t shy away from the attention. “I wanted others living with disabilities to believe it’s possible to live a normal life,” Maricel says.
When managers at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel saw Maricel on television, they hired her as part of the hotel’s Care for People project. Fellow chef Aljamil Borja marvels at Maricel’s skills. “She asks for assistance only if she needs to move a hot kettle or large saucepan from the stove, or open slippery bottle caps,” says Aljamil.
Maricel has also accomplished her goal of inspiring others. One of them is Ronelyn Calumpiano, a 21-year-old with cerebral palsy. Confined to a wheelchair, she rarely left her Manila home and had never attended school. Then she saw Maricel on television. “I watched her demonstrate how to prepare vegetables for a salad with so much confidence,” she recalls. Ronelyn, who now lives at the House with No Steps and will soon start classes, is already planning a career in IT.
Maricel’s three younger siblings have moved to Manila. She pays for the rent of their small apartment, while their parents look after the family farm in Mindanao. “It is difficult to make ends meet but I don’t lose hope. I believe anything is possible if you dream, work hard and pray.”

Second Letter to My Dearest Friend

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for this day.

Thank you for creating me: You called me into existence and are the reason for my very breath. I am nothing without You. I know that fully.

Please forgive me for all the times that I thought I knew better than You and acted against Your will for me. Forgive me for all the times I treated others wrongfully, because I thought my existence, my needs were more important than Your call for me to serve instead of being served.

Jesus, You created me for a reason, a reason that I am not aware of. You thought it good to create me and to sustain me despite all my sins. Please let me know how to serve You.

Help me to know how to respond to Your call. I no longer recognize Your voice because it is a whisper and I have deafened my own ears with my own deadly noise. Please restore my hearing.

Please help me to see You. I deadened my sight, by refusing to look at You and instead gazed upon that which was bad for me. Please heal my eyes; please allow me to see Your face.

Please heal my hands. Prepare them to serve you. I injured them when I did evil works instead of the good that You created me for. I want everything I touch to glorify You.

Please heal my voice. I want to only speak in kindness and in truth. Do not let vileness come from my mouth.

Please heal my mind. Cleanse my from all evil thoughts, imaginations and desires.

Please heal my will. I want to say "yes" to You always.

Jesus, please bless all those who are aware of my existence. Please bless all those whose lives my life has affected, if even only for a moment. If someone noticed me in a parking lot, on a street, or even one who stumbles on my blog, or noticed me in any other way, I ask You to bless them more than You bless me.  Jesus, please especially forgive and pour out You grace and mercy on all those who I have slighted, offended or in anyway hurt. Please bless those whom I love.  Jesus, please consider all these people that have been in my life, or even momentarily aware of my existence. Please heal all these souls from their wounds, and free them from whatever blocks them from committing their life to You.

Jesus, my life is Yours to do with what You will.  Help me to not waste a single moment. Let all my moments be with You and for You. I love You.

Prayer For Healing Of The Soul

by Babsie Bleasdell

Father I lift up my soul to you. Claim me for yourself, Lord. Reach down into my memory and remove any obstructions to your grace. Reach down deep into my soul, into the substance of my body where I may have been wounded, and release me to your most powerful embrace where nothing is left untouched or undone.

Cover me, O Blessed Mother, with your mantle of grace and claim me for yourself, to be given to Jesus, holy and blameless.

O Magnificent Holy Spirit, uncover and release thought patterns of rebellion entrenched in my understanding which I may have used to survive. Sweep down upon me with your anointing, O Holy Spirit, and immerse me in the Precious Blood so that any patterns of unlove will be erased and replace by the sacrificial love poured out on the cross. Pour love in abundance into my memory, understanding and will.

Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of the cross and the Precious Blood, I command every demonic spirit that attaches itself to me to be gone in Jesus’ Name; to leave me now, quietly and without disruption, and be disposed of at the foot of the cross. And Blessed Lord, as I begin to feel a newness within me that leaves me unsure and puzzled, walk in, march in, and fill every crevice of my soul with the felt sense and knowledge that I am a child of the King. Fill every crevice with a new substance of love and acceptance of who I am.

As the walls of Jericho come tumbling down, may the quiet walls of the light of your Holy Spirit, assure me that it is okay to be me, to be ___________ in this world.

Shed your light; shed your love, Lord. Let the skin I shed be released, cut away so that nothing will impede my response to your embrace, for you are my true Father. Thank you O Shepherd of Shepherds for hearing my prayer. Amen.

Refurbishing the Soul: Making Room for Joy

If our souls are clouded by pain we can't be joyfilled.  Joy isn't something that we can "fake until we make it."  Rather, it is an effect of a true undergoing of the soul, which is health.

We spend much time on our body and mind, but what about our memories, understanding or will? How much time do we spend on healing our memories?  Do we even know how?

Babsie Bleasdell explains how to heal the hidden parts of our souls:

I'm a Little Stressed Right Now...

There are some days where I feel perpetually stressed and anxious.  In fact, on these days I bet my insides look worse than the guy with the coffee. :-)

My goal is to do at least one relaxing activity a day until I have formed the habit of serenity; I want my default mode to be one of joy.  I no longer want little things to disturb my being and throw off my day.  I want to live such that I reflect St. Teresa of Avila's maxim:  Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you...

Here is a list of simple things that I found helpful in calming the body down:

Watch a sunset Go to the beach Be positive
Sing a song Pet a cat Tell a joke
Listen to music Be silent Take a nap
Talk to a friend Take a walk Go barefoot
Have a cup of tea Count your blessings Smile
Take a break Do it now! Stretch
Write Hum a tune Practice patience
Get up early Exercise Say a prayer
Forgive that person Prioritize Give a hug
Throw/kick a ball Play with a child See an inspiring movie
Practice Kindness Say "No" Set Limits
Eat a snack Read a book Give a blessing
Light a candle Laugh out loud Do a puzzle
Give a gift Draw/pastel Give a compliment
Take a bubble bath Avoid negative people Take a deep breath
Ask for what you need Go to bed on time Organize

These prayers have been very healing for me as well:

Simple Prayer by Fr. Swamy Ch. Balashowry:

Come Lord Jesus, come into my life, bless me, help me, heal me.

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from the side of Christ, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; within your wounds, hide me; let me never be separated from you; from the evil one, protect me; at the hour of my death, call me; and bid me to come to you; that with your saints, I may praise you forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Inner Healing
Dear Lord Jesus, please come and heal my wounded and troubled heart. I beg you to heal the torments that are causing anxiety in my life. I beg you, in a particular way, to heal the underlying source of my sinfulness. I beg you to come into my life and heal the psychological harms that struck me in my childhood and from the injuries they have caused throughout my life.

Lord Jesus, you know my burdens. I lay them on your Good Shepherd’s Heart. I beseech you—by the merits of the great open wound in your heart—to heal the small wounds that are in mine. Heal my memories, so that nothing that has happened to me will cause me to remain in pain and anguish, filled with anxiety.

Heal, O Lord, all those wounds that have been the cause of evil that is rooted in my life. I want to forgive all those who have offended me. Look to those inner sores that make me unable to forgive. You who came to forgive the afflicted of heart, please, heal my wounded and troubled heart.

Heal, O Lord Jesus, all those intimate wounds that are the root cause of my
physical illness. I offer you my heart. Accept it, Lord, purify it and give me the sentiments of your Divine Heart.

Heal me, O Lord, from the pain caused by the death of my loved ones. Grant me to regain peace and joy in the knowledge that you are the Resurrection and the Life. Make me an authentic witness to your resurrection, your victory over sin and death, and your loving presence among all men. Amen.

Healing the Family Tree
Heavenly Father, I come before you as your child, in great need of your help; I have physical health needs, emotional needs, spiritual needs and interpersonal needs. Many of my problems have been caused by my own failures, neglect and sinfulness, for which I humbly beg your forgiveness, Lord. But I also ask you to forgive the sins of my ancestors whose failures have left their effects on me in the form of unwanted tendencies, behavior patterns, and defects in body, mind and spirit. Heal me, Lord, of all these disorders.

With your help I sincerely forgive everyone, living or dead members of my family tree, who have directly offended me or my loved ones in any way, or those whose sins have resulted in our present sufferings and disorders. In the name of your divine Son Jesus, and in the power of his Holy Spirit, I ask you Father, to deliver me and my entire family tree from the influence of the evil one.

Free all living and dead members of my family tree, including those in adoptive relationships, and those in extended family relationships, from every contaminating form of bondage. By your loving concern for us, heavenly Father, and by the shed blood of your precious Son Jesus, I beg you to extend your blessing to me and all my living and deceased relatives. Heal every negative effect transmitted through all past generations, and prevent such negative effects in future generations of my family tree.

I symbolically place the cross of Jesus over the head of each person in my family tree, and between each generation; I ask you to let the cleansing blood of Jesus purify the bloodlines in my family lineage. Send protective angels to encamp around us and administer your divine healing power to all of us, even in areas of genetic disability. Give special power to our family members’ guardian angels to heal, protect, guide and encourage each of us in all our needs. Let your healing power be released at this very moment, and let it continue as long as your sovereignty permits.

In our family tree, Lord, replace all bondage with a holy bonding of family love. And let there be an ever-deeper bonding with you, Lord, by the Holy Spirit, to your Son Jesus. Let the family of the Holy Trinity pervade our family with its tender, warm, loving presence, so that our family may recognize and manifest that love in all our relationships. All of our unknown needs we include with this petition that we pray in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
